HDB Mobile – data on your handphone
HDB has recently launched a mobile version of the HDB website, allowing users to check information on the move. This provides a convenient solution to users who need information on the move but do not carry a laptop / iphone =)
Some of the latest applications on Mobile@HDB include the following:
- Buying a New Flat. Home buyers can now check for the results of their sales application, the flats that are available for selection, and also check on the probable completion dates of their new flats.
- Buying a Resale Flat. Home buyers can now check on resale transaction prices on the go. This will be a useful feature especially when they are out viewing resale flats at various locations. They could also check on the ethnic quota, work out a financial plan, and the distance between HDB blocks to qualify for CPF housing grants for living close to parents/children.
- Others. The public can also use our Where2Shop application to find out where to shop and eat in the heartland. They could also check on the status of HDB’s upgrading programmes, and follow us with our latest news and events.

MND & HDB housing policy updates

The Government announced today the following measures to maintain a stable and sustainable property market:
- Increase the holding period for imposition of Seller’s Stamp Duty (SSD) from the current one year to three years.
- For property buyers who already have one or more outstanding housing loans at the time of the new housing purchase:
- Increase the minimum cash payment from 5% to 10% of the valuation limit; and
- Decrease the Loan-to-Value (LTV) limit for housing loans granted by financial institutions regulated by MAS to these buyers from the current 80% to 70%.
The measures will take immediate effect on 30 August 2010.

This press release provides details of the measures to:
(a) Allow households earning between $8,000 and $10,000, to buy new DBSS flats with a $30,000 CPF Housing Grant;
(b) Increase the supply of new flats, Design, Build and Sell Scheme (DBSS) flats, and Executive Condominiums (EC);
(c) Shorten the completion time of Build-To-Order (BTO) flats;
(d) Increase the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) for non-subsidised flats to 5 years; and
(e) Disallow concurrent ownership of both HDB flats and private residential properties within the MOP.

Hungry Ghost Month 2010 (10th Aug to 7th Sep)

Some say … it’s inauspicious to buy property during Lunar 7th Month (aka Hungry Ghost Month). This year, it will start on 10th Aug and end on 7th Sep. Others say … can buy, but just don’t start renovation within the month. There are also many who believe it’s best not to move into a new home during the 7th Month.
A couple years back, 7th month or no 7th month, buyers were still flocking to showflats and making new purchases.
Anyway, if you are seriously particular about the timing, here’s how to time everything perfectly (for good luck and good sense)
You can make a purchase in early August, let the paperwork go through until October, proceed to do your renovation until late November, move into your new home early December … just in time to celebrate Christmas and New Year in your new home.

Private home sales falls to lowest level in 2010

First time this year, private home sales has fallen below the 1,000 units mark (… and we are thankful for the breather)
URA said 143 new homes in the city and prime districts were sold during the month, while the city fringe saw 275 units changing hands. Homes in the suburban areas were most popular with 429 units sold.
Figures from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) showed that just 847 new homes were sold, down from 1,083 transactions done in May.
Experts said high-end homes will stage a comeback and could see a price increase, due to continued interest from foreign investors.
So … is it time?
